Official Relocation (Change of Permanent Duty Station or Change of Station)

The Office of International Travel and Exchange Visitor Programs, MA-45, manages all official change of duty stations that are initiated and funded by Headquarters, DOE.  All change of duty stations are processed in accordance with GSA Travel Regulations which govern travel, relocation allowances, and entitlements for federal employees.  MA-45 provides advisory services and assists Program Offices regarding the regulatory requirements, eligibility criteria, required documentation, the entitlement specifics applicable to each case, and serves as a coordinator of a variety of relocation related activities.

A change in an employee’s official duty station occurs when an employee work site or station is moved to a new geographic location (a change in city/town/, country, or state) and no other change occurs. This change means moving the employee, his/her family, and the family belongings to a new location.

A Duty Station is the city/town, country, and state in which the employee works.  For most employees, this will be the location of the employee’s worksite.  The worksite of the employee is the place where he or she works, or at which the employee’s activities are based, as determined by the employing agency.

The following are generally eligible for relocation expenses:

  • New Appointee
  • Transferee
  • Overseas Transfer
  • Student Trainee
  • Last Move Home
  • Temporary Change of Station
