DOE Seal Downloads

Electronic files of the DOE seal and the process to request permission to use the DOE seal.

It is preferred that you use the DOE logo instead of the DOE seal.  The DOE logo can be obtained by clicking here.

If you are a contractor, an external organization to the Department, and/or want permission to use and reproduce the DOE seal outside of the HQ facilities, the Office of Administration has a concurrence system to process requests for permission to use the seal.  The Director, Office of Administration (MA-40), is the Secretary’s designee for approving usage of the DOE seal, and needs a written request for permission to use the seal, along with other information.

The artwork is available in different color styles, and in several file formats.  Below is a table where you can see the various color styles and download the file format you want.  The file formats available, and their uses, are:

1. A high-resolution jpeg file.  This is a standard file format for office software, and can be downsampled/downsized for web use.  The artwork is saved at a large size at 300 dpi, and should print/reproduce at high quality.

2. A png file (Portable Network Graphics).  This file can be used in most office software, including PowerPoint and Word, and allows for transparency in areas where there is no artwork, i.e. you can see the background colors.

3. The original vector-based Illustrator artwork saved with an Encapsulated Postscript (eps) header.  This is a preferred file format for professional printing and publishing.  Being vector-based the artwork will scale large and small and print at the maximum resolution of the output device.  IMPORTANT: when downloading this file the default extension may be .ps, you need to change the extension to .eps for the file to be properly saved and useable.

Process to request permission to use the DOE seal

Please respond to the questions below, to request permission to use the DOE seal, and send your request to:
DOE Graphics
(202) 586-2732
Click this link to initiate an e-mail to Graphics, or send your e-mail request to:
graphics@hq.doe.gov

It is preferred that a Federal DOE employee make the request.  At the time of request please be prepared to explain if you are an internal DOE entity and need to get the seal for use on publications, documents, etc. that are being produced/reproduced at HQ.  You still may be asked to provide a formal written request for permission to use the logo.

If you are not a Federal employee of the Department, we do need the name and other contact information of a Federal employee of the Department, preferably at HQ, that can be contacted to verify the information in your request and possibly to provide further input regarding the appropriateness of the desired usage.  Note that requests that do not have a Federal contact at the Department may take longer to process.

Only written request will be accepted for permission to use and reproduce the DOE seal outside of HQ facilities.  Please be as specific as possible so a determination can be made if this is an appropriate usage of the logo.  Any mock-ups will help.

1) It is preferred that you use the DOE logo for reproductions, use this link to view the DOE logo.  If you want the DOE seal and not the full DOE logo please provide a specific justification for why you need the seal as opposed to the logo.

2) How will the seal be used? On a brochure; on a banner at a booth; as part of a sponsors slide show? We need to know as best as possible where and how it will be placed/used, and if possible what content it is associated with.  Any mock-ups will help.  We need to understand the content the seal is being associated with.

3) Why is it appropriate for the seal to be there? Is DOE a sponsor of the event? What is the connection between having the DOE seal and the content/conference/usage? The DOE seal is an implied or explicit endorsement of what it is associated with, why should it be endorsing this usage/event?

4) When is the conference/meeting/event? Is there any urgency in delivery of the files (if approved)? What is the desired timeframe you would like?

5) Who are you, and what is your involvement with this request? Who do we contact if we have further questions?

6) If you are recognizing the Department for providing funding we do need more details.  Who provided the funding (what Program Office, what site/location)? What was the funding specifically for?  Do you have a contact, a Federal employee of the Department, that is involved with this funding?
